Correspondence arranged in various categories, drafts of books and articles, proofs, illustrations, reviews, lectures and files relating to the Anglo-Australian Observatory. There are also digital files of outgoing correspondence since 1987, and a listing of the collection box contents, on CD. Several of Malin's notable works are represented in the collection including, Catalogue of the universe (with Paul Murdin and David Allen, 1979), and, Hartung's astronomical objects for southern telescopes: a handbook for amateur observers (1995).

Astronomer, astrophotographer and science writer. Born in England on 28 March 1941, Dr David Frederick Malin trained and worked as a chemist. He has lived in Australia since 1975 when he moved to Sydney to take up a job with the Anglo-Australian Observatory (AAO). In 1985 he was awarded the Jackson-Gwilt Medal and Prize of the Royal Astronomical Society.
